EVTV Cape Girardeau, USA – October 2015

Around The World – EVCCON 2015

EVCCON 2015 (Electric Vehicle Conversion Convention) in Cape Girardeau, Missouri is the only fixed date on my whole 7 month trip, everything else was designed and scheduled around it. It is the 5th yearly convention put on by Jack at EVTV.me and represents a week where folks who build their own electric cars “get liquored up, play with high voltage and go for a drive.”

In previous years, we held sessions in a large conference center, did SCCA-sanctioned drag racing and autocross at the airport, had an Electric Vehicle day in the town park, had a parade through town and ate a lot of food. All of that went out the window this year when, with 13 days to go before the start, Jack informed us that the insurance agent that he has purchased his liability insurance through dropped the ball this year. Without the insurance, we lost access to everything.

A large contingent quickly told Jack we were still coming so scale down the food order and we’ll hold the sessions in his workshop, and have the whole week to play with cars and components there too. About 50 of us showed up and made the most of the week.

In order to not drive away all of my faithful readers, please follow these links to my electric car blog for details and pictures of each day of the week.

I do want to announce that for the second year in a row, I won the trophy for the longest trip to the conference. My total was 27,418 miles over the course of 3 months since I left my home in Thailand. Luckily the trophy is much smaller this year and I was able to squeeze it into my little suitcase.
