Thailand started an ambitious plan to lay a second railway track from the new Krung Thep Apiwat (Bang Sue) Station going north and south. When the construction reached my town of Hua Hin from 2021 to 2024 my friend Geoff and I flew our drones every month along the line from north to south to watch the progress. Here are the videos we shot.
Thailand High Speed Rail Construction Drone Flights - Introduction
A new high-speed rail line is being built right next to my condo. The system will eventually connect China all the way to Singapore.
This is the introduction ...video to the overall project, and will be followed by monthly drone flyovers so we can see the progress of the construction.
Let me know if you have any questions or want me to capture specific aspects of the construction with the drone.

This is the April 2021 drone flyover of the high-speed train line construction in Hua Hin, Thailand.
See the introduction video here for all of the background information: https://youtu.be/yLXRLevZNZw
Drone: DJI Mini ...2, flying at fastest speed in Sport mode. Video sped up by 200%.
I'm still getting used to flying the drone, so please let me know your thoughts on the following so I can make the videos better each month:
- Audio track: Hate it? Love it? Get a different one? Too loud?
- Flight speed: Too fast? Too slow?
- Labelling: Keep same labels each time? Only label new / changed things?
- Label things to the side of the train line?
- Altitude: Too high? Too low?
- Camera angle: Too shallow? Too deep?
- Fly further south? Frankly not much interesting to the north.
- Fly both ways? Only fly north to south or south to north?
- Any other issues?Show More
Hua Hin Thailand Mid-Speed Rail Construction Drone Flight - May 15 2021
Welcome to the May 2021 Hua Hin train construction drone flight! This ...
Welcome to the May 2021 Hua Hin train construction drone flight! This month we see some nice progress on the construction and explore a new area in the south ...end of the city.
Many thanks to all of the people who pointed out in the April 2021 video that this is neither a High-Speed train, nor part of the Chinese network of train lines in Thailand. That was the plan when it was first announced but has since been scaled back, and clearly I didn't get the memo!
So, what we really have is a "Mid-Speed" dual-track system, expected to cruise around 160 kph, which is almost double what I've experienced in the past, so that's still a good thing.
The dual-track system will alleviate the problem of a northbound and southbound train fighting for the same track. I've been on a train that had to stop and reverse to the previous station to allow another train to go past. That really messes up the schedule.
The trains coming through Hua Hin will soon transition from the old Hua Lamphong station in the heart of Bangkok to the new Bang Sue station in the northwest corner of the city. This will cut an additional 45 minutes off the trip and allow me to jump onto Bangkok's BTS / MRT subway system and quickly get to where I want to go.

As you may have noticed, I've stepped up the game with a new drone-focused introduction and new location tag style. I've brought on my friend and creative genius Tony Cooiman as the director of photography and editor, and you can see the result. I remain your humble drone pilot monkey and YouTuber wannabe. Check out Tony's work at https://www.youtube.com/user/tonycooiman and contact him for your Internet marketing, video shooting and editing needs. And he will kick your ass in Uechi-Ryū karate!

By popular demand, this month I've flown the entire length of the line from the very north end of Hua Hin at the airport, all the way to the very south leading out of town towards Khao Tao. That took me 3 days and 8 flights, using up all 3 batteries each day. You'll notice a small blur as I edit the sections of video together to try to make it look like a single seamless flight. I managed to maintain a 42 meter altitude on all of the clips but I need to decide on and set a camera gimbal angle for consistency - I promise better next month.
This section of new train line is a "Mid-Speed" dual-track system, expected to cruise around 160 kph, which is almost double what I've experienced in the past, so that's still a good thing.
The dual-track system will alleviate the problem of a northbound and southbound train fighting for the same track. I've been on a train that had to stop and reverse to the previous station to allow another train to go past. That really messes up the schedule.

Welcome to the July 2021 Hua Hin train construction drone flight! This month we see some nice progress on the active construction areas at a lower altitude, plus a ...bonus video of a new shopping and dining area that's to be located on land that's already in use. I'll keep my eye on that!
The dual-track 160kph system will alleviate the problem of a northbound and southbound train fighting for the same track. I've been on a train that had to stop and reverse to the previous station to allow another train to go past. That really messes up the schedule.

Hua Hin Thailand Train Construction Drone Flight - August 15 2021
Welcome to the August 2021 Hua Hin Thailand train line construction ...
Welcome to the August 2021 Hua Hin Thailand train line construction drone flight video update.
First a quick shoutout to Hua Hin Today for reporting on a possible restart ...of the High Speed project, with a year-long second feasibility study being commissioned. This is potentially good news although sometimes we hear big promises and nothing ever comes of it.
Today I'm getting in some of the more active construction sites before about 10 days of thunderstorms will roll through the area. First up is a small bridge over a creek, then a closeup of one of the overpass bridges. That is the proper name, as an alert viewer pointed out that I previously called them U-turn bridges when in fact they perform no U-turn function! Then we go past the ground preparation at Soi 68 and finish off of course with the new stations where work is progressing quickly.
This will be my last train line video until I return from my trip to Canada and America in December. I'm currently studying for my FAA Part 107 Unmanned Aircraft Systems license and will be taking the drone with me to hopefully get some great video while I'm over there. I do have footage already recorded for Banyan golf course and Cha-Am beach that I will edit and post while I'm over there.
OK, let's get flying.
