The workshop building sits in the middle of an area of small gravel and "road base". This makes it difficult to keep the dust down, move things with dollies and stay clean during and after rain, so I decided to put in a concrete sidewalk on the north and south end and a large concrete pad under the carport.  This will allow for people access to the new entry door, easy moving big things in and out of the garage door, dry storage under the carport and simple ferrying projects back and forth to the finishing room. Here are the before pictures:

We got a little project scope creep as Jose suggested widening the sidewalks to full widths, which of course made a lot of sense. A little additional labor cost and a little more in concrete, but the right decision for the long term.

Several days before the pour, Jose and his team came over and set the forms, dug down to the proper depth and laid down and wired the rebar.

The pour day arrives, along with a crew of 6 and two cement trucks!

Now comes the art of concrete. Jose and his team had really great attention to detail.  I decided to go for a smooth finish, showing the arcs made by the smoothing floats, rather than the normal brushed outdoor finish.  I want to be able to roll things smoothly and be able to sweep off the inevitable dust easily.

Everybody's gone and now it's time to let it dry at its own pace.
